The European Poker tour was recently in the Spanish City of Barcelona which is a great place to hold a poker tournament but what made the tournament news was the celebrities taking part in the €5000 freeroll called the “phenomenon table” which included ex football ace Ronaldo, not the Portuguese one but the Brazilian one who has long hung up his boots. Ronaldo is a PokerStars ambassador and is often in the poker tournament news for taking part in such events. Unfortunately for him there were also professional players taking part in the poker tournament such as the ultimate winner Vanessa Selbst and others but prize money of €5000 would not attract these players were it not a charity event and sure enough according to the tournament news Vanessa donated her winnings to charity. The Poker Stars team is quite extensive as it is not only ex sports stars who participate as the tournament news is that Rafa Nadal is also on the books. In other tournament news the main event in Barcelona was of course the €5300 no limit hold’em event which attracted some 1200 plus players and ended in the final table of 8 players. Even reaching the final table guaranteed a prize of some $135,000 out of the nearly €5 million pot but the winner was Englishman Tom Middleton (no relation to Kate that we know of) who scooped the first prize of around €942,000 which eclipsed his previous lifetime best. According to the poker tournament news this raises Tom to number 29 in the POY standings and it was his 12th career title so he is not a complete unknown on the circuit. Losing in the final head to head was KImmo Kurko from Finland who also pocketed almost $1 million leaving him one place behind Middleton in the rankings in 30th place.
